Speciality: Mid-century inspired module furniture

It’s been a hellovalotta fun using my skills to divert furniture from landfill and work on projects that excite me. I‘ve had the pleasure of giving furniture a new life to be enjoyed in homes and spaces between Melbourne, Sydney, Newcastle and the Hunter Valley.

  • In the past I hadn't been able to find a course that was specific to makers, let alone furniture makers! I had been following the Al & Imo Instagram for a while and couldn't help but notice their growth and success. When I decided to start a furniture brand I had complete confidence that they'd be able to guide me through.

  • That a successful business journey is having strong foundations to lean on so that when things start feeling overwhelming you can go back to why you're doing it and what you want to offer. Going back to these initial foundations kept me grounded in where I was heading.

  • I had my first order (which was over 10K) before I had properly launched the brand. I was still working on the product development and not quite finished the prototype but the customer had trust in me as I had such strong values and vision. We have kept in touch since I delivered their piece five months ago and they are so happy with it and how it is performing functionally and aesthetically.

  • Working for yourself can be a bit lonely and isolating at times. I enjoyed being in a community of like-minded makers where we could bounce ideas off each other and offer support as we worked through the modules. I loved the weekly calls with Al & Imo and the other makers.

  • The Makers template was so easy to use! When all you want to do is a be a maker it is quite hard to get your head around being a marketer too. Using the template was a great start to build my site and learn how to use the Squarespace platform.

  • For me, ongoing mentoring has been a game changer. Life is busy - I run my other business Upholstrei and have a young growing family. It was so important for me to keep a healthy work/life juggle AND start Culture Cush. Having Imo's help and encouragement has been my secret weapon in getting the brand launched and keeping momentum. There has been nothing better than being accountable to someone who has been there, done that!
